HELLO BAND!!
these are a few reminders for speech day/learning festival!
1)everyone is to be ready (changed into full band uniform and instruments set up) by 7.30am on sat
2)please please please rmb to bring your band tee (frog one)!
3)chinese drummers, please rmb bring your sticks, slacks and PE shirt (no wearing band tee on the real day)!

and a few changes,
1)CHINESE DRUMMERS!! as acs will be on stage, so for the diamond formation, the last two rows DONT HAVE TO MOVE.
2)fairfield will be warming up in our band room, so we have to set up chairs for them! and as they need space too, ALL our belongings, including tablet (if you are bringing) have to be put in the storeroom
3)muah chee stall might be opened earlier (maybe around 10) sec 1s are to help tend the stall first, cause the main band will be very busy!

For the whole of CGSSB,

Congratulations. You have come this far, and you will go further. Enjoy the music. Enjoy each other's company. Enjoy yourselves. Work hard, play hard. (No pun intended.) And when unsatisfactory results come, don't weep sad tears for they blind you from the real things that matter.

You may weep. But weep happy tears, for you've practised hard and you've gone through another something yet again. Together. The experience never leaves. One day, it might have seemed like it has left. But no, it's just hidden somewhere. You just have to start looking. And when you've found it and looked back, you'll smile. (:

The Gold does not say who you are, what type of band you are, or what kind of person you are. You do. So make your 4 years in band worth your while, enjoy every minute. Enjoy every note. Enjoy all your mistakes. And enjoy learning from them and making them right.

NBC is merely a stepping stone. How so very cliche, but things that are true are said many times and thus made cliche. See the bigger picture. Look for greater heights. Soar beyond your reach. And most importantly, don't look back in anger. Every moment in band and with the band is precious and should not be received with angst.

For Band is not merely a CCA.
It never was just a CCA,
And it never will be.
It's so much more.

Congratulations. I've had a fun time with everyone and I don't regret it one bit that I stayed and played on for one last time as part of the main band. I'm so very glad for each and everyone of you and I know the band will carry on its wonderful legacy.

Dear band,

Hello again. It's been a long time. How's the holidays? I hope everyone's having fun. I know since we're in Crescent, holidays are really quite non-existent. But do make the most of it!

So I guess everyone knows now that we are the last band to play for the entire day. I guess it could be lucky or unlucky. But we're not depending on luck, are we?

It doesn't matter whether we're the last band or not, first band or whatever, playing after St. Pat's or not. Coz' if we believe in our own playing, we won't need to worry about these things.

Judging from the results of SYF 2007 last year, I'm sure you guys know what is expected of us. Hopefully, our current main band will be able to keep up that standard. I understand that this band is different from last year's band, different people and of course, different music. But a good band will remain a good band if they're really good.

I'm sorry I haven't been to the practices lately, but I know what's been happening. And I've heard you all play, sometimes when I pass by the band room. I'm sure you've heard your own playing also. You judge for yourself whether we're good enough.

For those who don't think we're ready, you know what to do - PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE. And if some of you actually think we're ready, it doesn't matter, you still have to PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE.

And no matter what position we're playing in, we're all still gonna put in our very very very ultimate best effort. I don't know how much more I can emphasise this, but band is a TEAM effort and no one can do it alone.

We're all dependent on each other. Everyone needs each other's support. So don't ever think that you can do it alone, and don't ever think that you are unimportant coz' like I said, being in band - WE'RE ALL A TEAM.

See you all next week. :) Until then, enjoy the break. Coz' it's gonna take a lot of hard work to get that Gold with Distinction for NBC.

Dear band, hi.

Yesterday's SYF was an eye-opener and for all of those who were there, I'm sure you know the standard.

All those mace work and seeing all the people's awesome marching makes me want to lead the band to that standard. But of course, my time has come and past, so up to you all now! I didn't have the opportunity to join such an event but I'm glad that the band will get the chance to join in future. :)

Especially this year's sec2s, the pioneer batch that will be leading the band into display after so many years of missing out on the display scene, you guys are lucky man. Don't feel pressurized coz' you guys are the pioneer batch. On the contrary, feel honoured. Coz' it is, indeed, a great honour. When you join, I assure you, A LOT of alumni will come back. Coz' it's just been a really long time, and I think, to a certain extent, some of the (very old) alumni will miss seeing CGSSB in the display scene.

I don't know if we'll go through with the 2010 plan. If we don't, of course, I'll be disappointed. But after all, we are a Symphonic Band, right? So, our area of experitse is still MUSIC!

Short term and long term. Of course, main thing is still this year's NBC in July (2 months!) and next year's SYF.

Oh, and sec4s! I hope you all still check this band blog. Ms Low wants me to pass the message that WE MUST LEARN TO MANAGE OUR TIME. Coz' obviously, she wants us to do well for our exams.

Midyears are coming up, so good luck to everyone of us. And MT O Levels are in 43 days! Omg, SCARY. Study hard. :)

As for everyone else, work hard as well. For now, concentrate on your midyears. Coz' if you all do well, I'm sure your parents will support your time in band all the way. None of us would want anyone's parents to stop them from coming for band coz' they think it's too time-consuming and their daughter could use that time to study. If anyone has that problem, show them that you can and will do it.

Of course, you can't study ALL THE TIME. That would be crazy! If you get a headache from all those notes (HAHAHAHA, pun), take out your instrument / mouthpiece and practice a bit. Hopefully, it will help you relax. Haha.

During this break, do continue practising. Coz' you don't want to let all your hard work for the past 3 to 4 months go to waste. I'm sure you don't want to come back and have to restart everything all over again.

On the other hand, please also learn to prioritize. When you need to study, do study. It's like what Mr Chua said on Apr 10, the last prac before midyr break. I hope you all took his words in mind and will listen to him.

It's gonna be one hell of a hard road and it is NOT gonna be easy. At all. So good luck, CGSSB. I won't be going down that road with you. Not coz' I don't want to, but mainly, coz' I can't. I'll just be one of the ghosts of the past floating along.

Well, practices have ended and most of you have brought your instruments home and maybe mouthpieces home. Remember to practice and not just dump your instrument aside to collect dust.

Also, take very good care of it as well.

Btw, display band and SYF outdoor 2008 were excellent! Those whom did not go - it was such a pity. ): We were blown away and impressed at how the marching bands come up with unique ways (by dance, formations, music) to impress the judges. Also, the drum majors were really impressive with their skills. Congrats to Deyi for winning the top band and the best drum major!

Study hard for your mid-year examination and remember, band practice will resume on 8th may!

Yes, it's me again, I know. Bet you all are tired of seeing my keeping-this-blog-alive attempts, haha.

Anyway, sec4s are gone now. For real. Officially, we're alumni. (Yuck, makes us sound old.) My feelings? I'm not sure. I guess I still feel like clinging on, but I know I shouldn't. =/ So I'm not going to.

I might be playing for NBC though! The ONLY one, coz' I don't know of any other sec4s who are playing. So, maybe you'll see me around once a week. But I don't know, anything could happen.

Dear sec3s,

We're passing on the responsibility of the band to you guys and I know you can and will do what is right and best for the band (as a whole).

Three words: LEAD BY EXAMPLE

I know our batch hasn't exactly been the most magnificent, most assertive, most organized leaders you've ever seen. But I don't want you to be like previous leaders. I want you to be BETTER than us.

Being the most senior is not easy. People will expect more of you. Your juniors will turn to you when they need help. And on top of all that, your studies are more hectic as well.

I'm not merely talking to the exco, mind you. Everyone single one of you (sec3s) is a leader and with that post of leadership, comes responsibility. It's time to come to that realisation, dear juniors, for we (sec4s) really are going now. Or rather, effective from yesterday, we have already gone.

Sec1s and Sec2s, just because you're not the leaders now, does not mean you do not carry responsibilities as well. You carry the responsibility of being a member of CGSSB and that, in itself, is already a lot. In future, you will become leaders as well and you will reach the point where your sec3s are now, and where we (sec4s) were last year and where all the past leaders stepped up.

Frankly, there's a lot of things I want to do for the band that I wish I had done during my term of office.And I'm thinking that if I had just one more week of staying as one of the main leaders, I could do that. =/ (Sounds awfully nostalgic (or naggy), I know.) But that's not possible, so it's up to you now.

If I do play for NBC and come back, 'slap' (not literally) me if I start acting like I'm still the DM, coz' I don't want to take that opportunity to lead away from you guys. I don't want to seem like I just can't let go and move on. But even I need a wake up call sometimes and hopefully, after that, I really can just let go.

Seeing you sec3s leading well will definitely put me (and all the other sec4s, I'm sure) at ease and make it easier. I know you're still learning the ropes, but learn quickly (and correctly), for this is a fast-paced world and often, we can't afford too much time to learn slowly.

To some of you, it might be scary. But what doesn't kill you, will make you stronger. And after this experience, I assure you, you will live, and you WILL be stronger.

It's your time to shine, the peak of your time in CGSSB. Do your best (for the band) and make the best out of the whole experience. Together with the band, strive to reach your goals for NBC and SYF. We leave the band, and now it is your hands.

I love you guys and I know you all can do it. We trust you and trust that you can bring the band to the best it can be (and more).

It's your turn now. Your turn to lead. Your turn to learn. Your turn to grow as a person. As a leader. As a member of CGSSB.

We believe in you.
So, believe in yourselves.

Stepping down yesterday wasn't as hard as I thought. Maybe the realization hasn't hit me yet. I was waiting for it to come. But it hasn't arrived, and I'm still kinda waiting. Whatever happens, I just really wish the best for the band. And that's from the bottom of my heart.

To all sec4s, I wish the best for everyone after stepping down and though we might not get to spend that much time with each other, I hope the bonds between us will still remain intact. All the best for everything! I think compared to other band members, you'll always have a special place in my heart, coz' you guys are the people who joined with me and now, are leaving with me. Everyone, no matter whether close, not close or very very close, I love you all. Really really. And I will miss you guys.

Dear band, I, and I believe the other sec4s feel the same way, believe in everyone of you. I know that to some of you, it might seem a little hard at first without the sec4s but you will get used to and MUST learn to play on without them. Every year, people come and people go, that's just the way it is. And part of growing as a person is learning to accept and adapt.

We'll still be around, of course. Just that.. You have to look for us coz' we don't get to spend 4 to 5 hours of our Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays with you all. You'll still see us in school and if ever you need help, don't be afraid to approach us. We'll be glad to help. :)

I hope you will always keep in mind your goals for the band. I.e. NBC, SYF 2009 etc. And continue working hard to achieve those goals for the band. For without you all, the band would be nothing. Every single one of you who's been part of my time in CGSSB has one way or another, made it special. And for that, I thank you.

Here's to CGSSB: the love of my life.

Hi band :)

As you know, the sec 4s stepped down today. Well. Yeah. Sec 3s, all the best for this coming year in band. NBC, SYF. It's a lot to handle but we believe in you! :) Help one another out, always keep helping each other. Trust each other! And have fun during your experience as the leaders of the band. I know that the Sec 4s believe in you, and that you will achieve whatever your goals may be! :D Don't hesitate to approach us if you need any help, we'll still be here alright (:

Sec 4s, I just want to thank each and every one of you for making my years in band so meaningful and enjoyable. Though we're not exactly very close to one another, know that I love all of you so, so much. Tomorrow's our last time performing as one. Let's play our best; make it our best mini-performance ever. I believe in all of you. Strive hard for O's, we'll succeed together.

HOLIDAYS :D

Dear Band,

We hope the overnight band camp was a fun, productive and refreshing experience for everyone.
We enjoyed planning it very much and we're sure you guys enjoyed it too :)

Looking ahead, the following week will be the Band Day Camp, which our aim is to get ourselves ready for the exchange (happening on 13th mar), in both music and marching.

Our music is good. But there is always room for improvement. So for the 1st and 2nd days of band camp, do practise more and much more! Because practice makes perfect :)

Also, the Sec 1s' marching have been improving quite tremendously. So well done, Sec 1s! As for the rest of the band, do keep up with the good work. :)

Like Mrs Chua said, we're going to the exchange to learn and share with the other bands. To achieve that goal, we must all adopt a learning attitude in order to gain something from the experience.

Last of all. For the Sec 4s, treasure the last few days we have in band, before we leave/live in regret after we've stepped down.

Hello everyone!

The band camp was great! Firstly, the organizing committee (i.e the top five : Mavis, Joan, Xiangyi, Nadia and Swee Chen) deserve tons of applause for putting in the effort to make sure we had a enjoyable camp.

I hope that you guys at least have found out more about each other or experienced a fun time in the various games and activities.

Work hard for Tuesday (Main band receives Mr Komiyama) and Thursday (exchange).

Lastly, I hope you have a wonderful holiday. (well, with whatever's left of it, esp for the sec 4s)

hello band ((: its me again. haha.

anyway, so nice to see this blog being updated. thanks joan. well, perhaps you guys want to put up a list of events for band, so all of us who have graduated will have a channel to know what's happening in band too?

hmm. as for marching, i see that over the years, the way u all are taught is different every year. well, or it seems like it. havent seen you all train, but just want to point out that, as much as all of us can have fun in learning marching.. the FUNDAMENTAL of marching is.. DISCIPLINE. when you fall in, it's back to squad+commander. so, that's just a point to note. if you all train well, it will actually (I BELIEVE) help out in your overall discipline in band - which i believe, is something we all want to help bring up in the band as well yea?? (leaders, or anyone of u, can contact me through tbone section. they shld know how to get to me.)

oh yes! as for marching.. the right & left turns, if you all have no idea, i can offer to go down on saturdays. to maybe teach the basics. honestly, its not easy learning and getting it right, but it ISNT impossible! my batch learnt it, and subsequent batches, due to time constraint, didnt really learn it well along the way. IF I REMEMBER, perhaps, i can help tell you guys the way it's supposed to be done, and u all can try it. just let me know yea?

anyway, i dont know how you all are feeling about sat band practices. but i really hope all of you appreciate it. when i was sec 1-3, there were sat practices, and honestly, saturday practices (even outside crescent) are the MOST PRODUCTIVE and fruitful time you can have with mr & mrschua. so i really hope you all really appreciate it, and please dont dread coming for band okay. esp so when its good training for NBC, or simply, to build up ur musicianship. i have no idea how crescent is like on saturdays now, but if you can get away from your non-compulsory lesson, i'd suggest you all spend time in band.[not that sat lessons arent tt impt. everyone has 24hours a day. what we do is determined by OUR CHOICES to set aside how much time we want to allocate for each task. so, perhaps, its gd tt u all start practising time management to juggle BOTH band + studies, nt just do one in either side. and if u miss any lessons, u can always take the initiative to fix consultations, group or individuals, with ur teachers. i believe your teachers will be more than willing to help out.] as i was saying, i hope we dont just conveniently miss band/ come late. ESPECIALLY for SECTIONALS. sometimes, we conveniently deem sectionals as arent-so-important, which is absolutely wrong. sectionals is the only time you have to zoom into your individual playing, techniques, tone, and work on your problems, before moving on to polish things up and play as a section.. which then lead you all to a more productive session in the band room. i'm sure all of us will feel frustrated if mrschua goes down to a particular section again and again just to correct ONE mistake. and i'm sure that's not her job. and i'm sure mr& mrschua puts in a lot of time on you all, and the trouble she has to travel all the way here. so, as much as you all may like/dislike that band's on a sat despite e 5day work week, lets think about how much time and hardwork others, mrschua & teachers, have put in to help us. and you all are really lucky to have her set aside saturdays for you all! SECTION LEADERS, that's how you all can assist mrschua. help give her a good SECTION SOUND, and she, can continue on with piecing the sections up together to form a BAND SOUND. being a SYMPHONIC BAND, there's so much things to work on. you have to be very musical, and i hope crescent will continue to bring music that touch peoples' hearts. it's more than just a concert band where you train up and put up performances. its the growth in you and the band. ((: so yeapp. although we dont look 'cool' like display bands, there's still a difference between a band that sits 'comfortably'(or so everyone thinks) in the band room and compared to one that plays in the field.

nevertheless, cgssb should never stop learning. since my batch (i sound really old...) mslow's been introducing the idea about display assessment. so, i hope one day, cgssb will hit outdoors too ((: and.. yet, deliver MUSIC. well, the thing about display band (it all boils down to marching, and BASIC MARCHING being the fundamentals), allows u to really be more conscious about how you all carry yourself as a band. POSTURE wise even. it's pointless to learn how to sit the right way 2 weeks before competition/concert. good posture really aids in your breathing (if you all havent realised), and gives you a higher FOCUS level. it may be difficult at first, but dont stop trying. once u get it into a habit, it will come naturally!

anyhow, these are just my inputs, i dont know if you all may like it, but i hope it's useful to some at least. and i'm speaking from my personal experience in band, be it cgssb or out. and i must say, there're no other places that offer the same as crescent. be it the group of understanding friends, mrschua who's always so patient, the teachers who are truly concerned etc. personally for me, i guess till today, the people who understand and whom i can relate to best about what i feel about band matters are those friends i made in crescent. so, i hope all of you (which i believe you all are) will continue on this spirit, and really appreciate this whole package you have in crescent. remember, conflicts dont last forever. so like what mrschua always tells us, i dont care what grudges you all have, "let us put aside our differences when we step into this band room" of cgssb

also, i'd like to apologise (esp to trombone section) for not being able to come down to help out/ support even during my post a's. will make an effort to come back soon!

Had band today.

Marching was a nightmare. Well, not really la. But well... One, for those of you who were there, you should have heard my oh so wonderful voice today. Two, my voice became sexier coz' of shouting (loud) commands despite the bad throat. Three, I lost track of time and Mrs Chua had already come when I haven't finished. :(

But some things were nicely done. Keluar Baris, for once, looked good on the first try. I mean, didn't have to repeatedly tell you all to fall out. It's a good thing coz' you get to fall out as soon as possible. And I could see some people were putting in effort to try to make dressing during Jalan Cepat Jalan better. Which is also a good thing, coz' if you're watching from at outsider's point of view, it's really... (please don't take offence) Horrible.

Most of all, it seemed everyone was having fun (I hope) learning Kekanan Belok, the pivot that was never taught to us before, due to serious complications in the demonstration which we didn't understand. Haha. No offence to Wenjun, of course.

Of course, still got room for improvements. So, everyone, please try your very very best and practice at home if you got nothing better to do. 90 degrees! And no horse-kicking!

Mrs Chua is most probably serious about entering the band in for Display Assessment. It's not SYF. It's merely, well, like the name suggests, an assessment. And if you're good enough, maybe next time, you can join the SYF for Display Band! :D Oh, and then you don't need to make marching video for SYF if you do well for DA.

I know some of you may think that marching is a chore. But it is important.I don't think we'll convert to being a display band. Coz' we're really a concert band. But if we are going for display assessment, take note that it is not marching alone. It is a lot more than that. LOADS MORE.

For a better idea of what I'm talking about, go to youtube and search for videos. Search things like, SYF 2006 Display Bands etc. For your information, the GWH Display Bands are Tanjong Katong Sec, Deyi, and Bowen.

Disclaimer: ON the plus side, you might be AMAZED, INSPIRED and MOTIVATED. Or adversely, you could be DEMORALIZED. Haha. Joking.

It's highly ambitious of us, of course, I know. Because as far as I know, in my entire four years, we haven't tried display at all. Except once. And we weren't even holding our instruments then.We were, well, basically, walking. But that's besides the point.

The point is, you all have to work very hard! Marching is super important! And don't forget, there's a marching video that still needs to be passable for SYF 2009. So, the next Drum Major, current sec3s, please work hard! Band, she's not working alone. You all must work WITH her. For Display Assessment, it will be the next DM, which is the current sec2s. So sec2s, don't think you can slack either!

It's a whole band affair and we need everyone's effort.
So, keep it up, CGSSB!

Anyway, I think I've nagged enough about marching. Oh my, I really did say a lot. But, moving on.

Welcome Sec1s! I hope all the seniors are treating you all well and teaching you the ropes properly.Haha. Sec4s, treat it as your mission to train your juniors until they're the best they can be and more!

Eh wait, this is supposed to be about band today, ain't it?

Well, anyway, today there were very little people. And I know most of them (at least I hope so) have viable excuses like lessons, flag day and such. Lessons on Saturday really are so.. Ugh. But nevertheless, they are important. I hope you all are beginning to love E/A Maths coz' it seems the teachers love us enough to bring us back on Saturdays. Oops, I'm digressing.

So, back to band: Variations on a Korean Folk Song. I hope that the main band is not merely laughing at your mistakes. Of course, it's alright to laugh, but please ensure that you're taking note of the mistakes and on how to improve them.

All those super long never-ending running notes. Clarinets, Trumpets, Flutes, Saxophones, and all the other sections who have them, take turns to breathe! Get together as a section and sort it out. There's plenty enough of you all to not 'die' at the same time.

Clarinets, remember about what Mrs Chua said about practising long-short, short-long on those running notes. Other sections might want to try it too.

Oh, and please take note, that you don't have to go at 132++ when you're practising. Important thing is, learn the notes and rhythm correctly first. Once you've done that, I'm sure Mrs Chua will be able to train us bit by bit to go faster until we reach the supposed tempo.

Speaking of rhythm, from 6/8 Allegro Con Brio onwards, "All the rhythms are related." Quote Mrs. Chua. So, relate all your 6/8, 3/2 and 3/4 together.

Juniors who have no idea how, ask your seniors. Oh, and it's also perfectly alright if it's the other way 'round. Seniors who don't know should ask their juniors too. We're all here to learn from one another! And if no one in the section knows, feel free to ask other band mates or Mrs Chua.

Practice practice practice!

That's it for Variations. I'm sure you all know what to do. Keep in mind the NINETY that you aimed for!

I know Crescent has crazy schedules and tests and stuff. But I guess that what makes Crescent, Crescent. And we wouldn't be CGSSB without Crescent, so.. Well, I hope you get my point.It's alright to be so busy and caught up in a web of studies, band and other whatnots. It's all about time management, really. Even I, myself, am still trying to learn how to cope better. So, you are not alone. Remember that we're all one family and there for each other. :)

Hello everyone.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!

We have a long break ahead and I hope everyone enjoys their break. Take the time to enjoy yourselves and relax because, we all know, Crescent will always hoard us with so many things that we'll be such BUSY BEES. :)

Of course, everyone still has to continue working hard. I hope most of you have taken the effort to bring home your instruments and when you get sick of eating the CNY goodies or slacking, bring it out to play!

THIS IS NO JOKING MATTER.

Obviously, I want you all to enjoy your holidays. But please always keep in mind that the National Band Competition is only a few months away.

Time will fly!

And before you know it, most of us, the sec4s, will be gone and it will be all up to you, the main band. - We'll have stepped down by then. :( Owells. -

You told me you aimed for 90 NINETY. So, keep that in mind. Personally, I think ninety is not enough. It's a reasonable goal. But what I want to say is, REACH FOR THE STARS!

Ever heard the saying "THE SKY'S THE LIMIT"? Well, guess what, it's not. SHOOT FOR OUTER SPACE (and even further)! Coz' I know you guys can do it.

Begin with the end in mind.
And continue working hard, everyone!

a new year, year full of new experiences and opportunities.
well, just want to wish you all all the best in the coming new year.

it didnt seem so long when i last saw the coming committee step up as seniors and all. and watching u all work through band camp and musical evening just made me feel proud of all of you. remember that training's always tough, but its what u all have learnt out of it. and i'm pretty sure u all have learnt a lot.

anyway, 2008 marks a start of the new year. and it's nice to see that the band has a vision - and even preparing to go for NBC. i hope that as a band, we do NOT put the success as synonymous to the type of medal we'll get. i'm sure even gold, silver or bronze, it'll mean something. it's always the LESSONS LEARNT. so whatever you all are targetting for, make sure, u all set GOALS for yourself as a performer, as a senior, as a SECTION and as a BAND and accomplish it together as one. it's more of how far you all will go AS A BAND when you look back at the end of this year.

sec4s, i hope you all will appreciate and cherish the remaining moments left in cgssb, and help ur juniors along.

i'd really like to emphasise that as much as u all are aiming high, music competition is always SUBJECTIVE. so i still believe that a GOOD BAND SPIRIT and LEARNING EXPERIENCE is what that matters. after all, these are what that will be created in each and everyone of you, that makes up the memories of cgssb. so yeap. work and practise hard and look out for one another.

and i'd like to say..its not just the sec4s, i'm sure the whole band wil support one another. and that.. the ALUMNI WILL GIVE THEIR UTMOST SUPPORT TO YOU ALL! ((:

(which im sure u all are!) cos its really hard to find somewhere else that provides what we had in crescent. not just band. but everything else also.

Dearest cgssb

I owe most of my happy memories to band, and regardless of what everyone thinks (Sorry diana; I peeked) the last time, I still love going band as much as I do since last time (probably even more). Cherishing the remaining time in cgssb and passing the legacy on is the last thing left to do.

The juniors will be delighted to know that the sec 4s (okay if not, I) will be behind them no matter what and even if you all get a silver for nbc, it does not matter as long as they tried their best. Only your conscience will tell you this.

I really do want to say all these as I'll be stepping down soon and I know I'll really regret it if I don't.

Food for Musical Evening celebrations
Hello, I've assigned every section to bring a particular food for the Musical Evening celebration! :)

Clarinets - egg sandwiches. Each person make 10 sandwiches. Cut the normal square bread into two triangles and make the sandwich (make it like how the stall 10 auntie does it).

Flutes & Oboes - sausages. Each person buy one packet of sausage, cook it. Cut every sausage into 3 tiny pieces.

LWW & Saxophones - An assortment of biscuits. Eg Wanwan or whatever. Have a variety :)

Euphos & Horns - plain crackers, like the one Ms Low brought for band camp. Bring stuff to eat with the crackers like uhh cheese, tuna, nutella, butter or whatever.

Trumpets & Trombones - potato chips. Everyone buy one or two packets of regular sized chips each. Not too small, not too big.

Percussion - Drinks. Everybody buy one bottle of drinks (1.5 litre) each. Have a mixture of carbonated and non-carbonated drinks.

Tuba - Paper cups and paper plates (100 each). Aluminum trays (2) to put the sausages/sandwiches and forks to eat the sausages with.

Junior leaders - get 3 more bottles of drinks thanks! 3 get drinks, one more get chilli sauce :)

Oh yeah, an alumni (or ex-girl) will be bringing fishballs :)

Ensure that all the food you buy is halal! (very very impt.) Also, I calculated and each person should not spend more that 2SGD on what you're supposed to get. Personally, I feel that we shouldn't pay using the money from the band fund but if you have any violent objections, tell me.

Anyway, more info about the band chalet!
On the 10th (Mon), meet at Commonwealth MRT Sheng Siong at 11.30am sharp! So that we can buy food for the BBQ, heh :D If you're going to be late, do sms sweechen/xiangyi/mavis/me to let us know. After we get the food, we'll head down to Sentosa together :D

Next, games. We need ideas for games that can be played there! We can play on the beach/in the room/wherever. Oh yes, I need someone to volunteer to bring a ball! A beach ball or anything. If you want to bring board games/card games, do feel free to bring on Monday! Then we can play at night :)

Also! Bring money with you!!! We need to pay 3 bucks for entrance fee! And we have money matters to settle.

Does anyone's mother/father/brother/sister (above 18) is free on Monday at 230 to help us check in? Please please please, if not, no chalet. We only need to check in, check out is fine.

Hi everyone.

I know there's been a big Hooha over Michelle Teo's blog. And I understand that some of you are very upset over her comments. But that is her opinion. And we can't please everyone, you know. There will always be people who have things to say. Our concert wasn't perfect, you have to admit. And if she wants to blog about it that way, she can.

I'm not saying I totally agree with what she says. I'm just saying that please do not insult her. Coz' she is entitled to her own opinion. I personally know Michelle and that is just the way she is. I'm sure some of you are hating her guts right now. But please do express yourself more politically correctly.

She chose to express herself in that way. But I don't want to think that we, as band members, are doing the same thing she is doing too. No need to insult ELDDS also, coz' basically, she's speaking for herself, not her her CCA.

I'm sure we all love band. And we all were somehow affected by the post, to different extents. I admit, I'm hurt too. And even more so, coz' she's a friend to me. But there's a fine line between defending OUR band and condemning others.

From Drum Major to all Band Members,
I sincerely (from the bottom of my heart) request that you all do not call her anything vulgar in public. (esp. not on the web) And it is alright to defend the band. But please do it without insulting anyone else. We don't have to insult anyone to show that we're good.

We're good, coz' we're REALLY GOOD.
Great, even.

If she wants to think we're not, let her think it. But we know we are. We know it in our hearts. We know that our concert was awesome. Awesome, but not without mistakes, and not without something to learn from.

I also would like to add that everyone did a great job. And thanks very much to our secretaries, Nadia and Sweechen, for getting us our lunches. And about the programs, they were very nicely done. And I thank everyone for the loads of effort they put in, considering our time constraints.

We all worked hard for it.
And we know it was a success.
So, don't care what other people may say.

i'm very proud of all of you!! really. seeing all of you in band, from NBC till SYF, its obvious that you guys really put in your all!!

and i'd say, you all did it way better than us - in terms of emotional status yesterday. it was like the HAPPIEST SYF ever with crescent!!!

though i dont know every single one of you, i really thank the current band members for always bearing with my comments and the smiles you all have given me. seriously.. you all were AWESOME!!!

very soon, sec4s are going to step down, and i really hope this band spirit continues, and you guys would continue to STRIVE HARD TOGETHER as ONE BAND ONE SOUND, and uphold the CRESCENT BAND SPIRIT! though things may change, the spirit shouldn't die yea. and i'm very glad that through all my returns, though the way the band functions' not exactly the same as our time, when its near syf, i really felt the crescent spirit once again.

alrights, anyway, a week plus to syf and im sure all of you are more or less ready for the competition.

though i dont communicate with most of you except as a band in general, i'd just want to say its nice seeing all of you all once again nevertheless.

right now, as you all know, you girls really need to work on intonation and tuning as a whole and im sure you all have been putting in your effort on that.

no matter what, just remember to enjoy these moments you have with your section and the sec4s before they step down...
and for syf; just put away ALL your fears because like what i said, its no point playing so well in the band-room and underperform outdoor because your job as a musician or a performance artise, is to bring good performance to people! so the final product should be TO THE AUDIENCE! so learn to BREATHE and relax; play the TRUE meaning of MUSIC to your audience. this doesnt apply only for syf; but for EVERY OTHER SONG you do in band!!

work hard and i'm sure you all have come a long way.. its the final lap now.
keep up the morale and the cgssb spirit...
and remember.. PLAY GOOD MUSIC. oh yes, please take note of your presentation as well, because it IS part of the judging criteria! (and we want to get hold of as many marks as possible) it's YOUR responsibility to ensure that you're COMFORTABLE when you're playing, so feel free to adjust on stage. DONT SACRIFICE YOUR MUSIC and go down stage being regretful. like what i told you all.. DON'T REGRET NOT GIVING YOUR ALL after all, this may be the first or last syf for some of you. you want to keep a good memory of this.

tis is like soo my first entry here..at least i think so (maybe not).

but anw serious stuff.

haha yeaps.

SYF year is tis year and u ppl will be aiming for Gold with Honours. the last SYF we did,we got gold, and that was one which we were proud of. i stll rmb how we went on celebrating at Swensens, doing things, saying stuff like we are goldmembers.
i mean we all wanted Gold with Honours, trust me, everyone wanted it. but well, get what we didnt get aites!

time will fly really quick, and before u know, the number of practices left will be just a few more t SYF. and that's not a good feeling esp. when u start t worry bout lotsa other things. each SYF has its own experience, and memories, and well, like what i had, while waiting for the results t be announced, i kept thinking,"what if we didnt even get gold?"and things like we've been practicing for so long and so much, it'll be sucha great waste.

i mean, u wouldnt want someone's or a section's mistake t be the one t bring the whole band down, esp. if it's you, or your section. be fair t all, and practice hard, play hard, and reap the rewards. when the result is announced, you will feel the great achievement as all your efforts have been paid off.

i told my section tis before the concert. dont get off the stage and start regretting your mistakes, what u played wrong and what u might not have played. but rather, get off the stage, with the confidence that,'hey that was our best. we've done it. we've shown the Crescent band magic' like we always do on the big events.

but dont fool ard, or rather get serious during pracs. pretend like it is the big stage, every practice is the big stage, so that what u give is more than just a normal practice. when the day comes, with practices like tis, the Crescent band magic will be more than what it usually is.

well bottomline is, get serious now. there's not much time left seriously. im really sure that the leaders have said their parts, so its up t u all now t practice what they have talked t you about. u wouldnt want t bring the whole band down because of what you, and YOU have done wrong. be fair, and do justice t the band.

well tink ive said enough. bring the the gold with honours achievement back. no pressures.

seriously, play music, and not notes. that's how the music will come alive, and that's how the judges will judge u.
feel the music, and play it out.

i trust that u all can do it.

Well Quintessence is over and it may have been good or bad(individual perspective) but what ever is over is over and we must move on with life!
So better buck up for SYF 2007!
Hopefully we won't be a by-luck band, and bring home our Gold(with honours?) for all too see. (Plus if we get with honours it'll be the first in CGSSB history, making it awesome in all ways)

hello ppl. :D
since no one is updating, i shall contribute an entry.

as all of you SHOULD know, the band competition is coming up. and if you all don't want mrs chua to take the band out of the competition, you all will have to work doubly hard. now that the exams are over, i hope all of you will take more time to practice your instruments and improve improve improve. THE BEST IS YET TO BE -> band motto. i'm sure all of you can do better and achieve much more.
